Red Blend 2019
30th July 2024Shiraz 2018
R180
Intense, dark purple hues. Captivating aromas of red cherries, tobacco roll, all spice, olive tapenade and charcuterie. The wine has a luxurious entry on the palate, with luscious fruit coated in delicate and silky tannins. The mid-palate shows a broad mouthfeel, while the high-altitude Cederberg terroir adds a lifting freshness, despite the challenges of this hot and dry vintage. A wine with great balance between wood and fruit – rich and concetrated, yet elegant and refined. Flavours of cracked pepper, dark fruits and smoked meat linger on the finish.
Harvest Report 2018
The region was hit very hard by water shortages due to the ongoing drought and experienced a big drop in production. The grapes were very healthy in general
due to low pressure from diseases. Water stress due to the drought and greater sunlight exposure led to definite style differences in the wines. The colour and concentration of the red cultivars looks very promising.
Verification
The grapes were handpicked at optimal ripeness, de-stalked and given a light crush. Fermented in stainless steel tanks with the aid of a specially selected yeast strain. Pumpovers of the fermenting juice over the cap of sinks took place at regular intervals to ensure the desired colour extraction. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to French aok barrels (30% new) for a 12-month maturation period. Matured for a further 12 months in bottle prior to its release.
Total production: 3162 bottles
